About Company

Nayara Energy is one of India’s largest private downstream oil and gas companies engaged in petroleum refining, fuel retailing, petrochemicals, and energy infrastructure. Formerly known as Essar Oil, the company was rebranded as Nayara Energy in 2018 after a consortium led by Rosneft acquired a major stake in the business. Headquartered in Mumbai, Nayara operates India’s second-largest single-site refinery at Vadinar, Gujarat, with a refining capacity of around 20 million metric tonnes per annum and one of the world’s highly complex refining setups.

The company has built one of India’s fastest-growing private fuel retail networks, operating more than 6,500 petrol pumps across the country under the Nayara brand. Along with fuel retailing, Nayara is involved in crude oil refining, institutional fuel supply, petrochemicals, logistics, and energy distribution infrastructure. Its Vadinar refinery is supported by integrated port facilities, power generation infrastructure, and extensive supply-chain capabilities, allowing the company to process a wide range of crude oil grades efficiently.

Nayara Energy plays a significant role in India’s energy security and private fuel retail ecosystem while competing with public sector oil marketing companies and private players like Reliance Industries. In recent years, the company has also expanded its focus toward petrochemicals and sustainability initiatives. However, Nayara has remained in global focus due to its Russian shareholding structure and the impact of EU sanctions linked to Russian oil trade, which have affected certain international operations and exports. Despite these challenges, the company continues to expand its domestic market presence and infrastructure capabilities in India’s energy sector.
